Mask

Mask

In the mornings, Walter wore a mask.

He greeted collegues with a smile.

He made watercooler banter.

He kept his desktop clean.

In the afternoons, he wore a mask.

He greeted neighbours with a smile.

He chatted about the weather.

He kept his garden neat.

On the first Thursday every month,

in the designated house,

in the soundproof cellar,

under the yellow light,

he tore off the mask.

No smile or chatter was expected.

Nothing neat or clean.
